Science Objectives | |
Over the past decade the scientific ocean drilling has installed six borehole observatories on the eastern flank of the Juan de Fuca Ridge off the coast of Washington and British Columbia. The goal of this research has been to understand the pathways of seawater flow through the basaltic crust and the reactions that take place while this seawater is in the crust. These reactions include exchange with the overlying sediment pore waters and water-rock reactions and potentially microbial mediated reactions. The goal of this cruise is to recover all of the instruments that have been deployed on earlier cruises, collect fluid samples, and seal the boreholes for future experiments. | |
