Science Objectives

The expedition consists of two activities:

  1. Deployment of 51 OBS instruments on the Gofar Transform Fault. Deployments will occur for 16hrs per day and will take 11 days. The instruments will be left out for one year as part of a two year deployment.
  2. Dredging at night (8hr) during the OBS deployment period, followed by 3 days of round-the-clock dredging. Dredging will be on Gofar, Discovery and Quebrada Transform Faults, starting in the area 106W, 4.6S and ending in the area 103W, 3.5S.

Winch Notes: CTD winch will be used for OBS lowering.
Trawl winch will be used for dredging.
Need swivel for dredge.
Traction winch required for dredging.
Need 3 WHOI rock dredges.
Lee Ellett (SIO) is sending 3 SIO rock dredges with weaklinks.
We need 2 x 12 kHz Pinger for wire use (1 ready spare).
We would like confirmation of the condition of the winch ahead of the cruise. How recently has it been used? Where there any issues?
