Test Ride

April 10, 2015

R/V Neil Armstrong took a step closer to delivery recently when it began builder’s trials in the waters of the Pacific Northwest. The ship, shown here off Anacortes, Wash., with Mt. Baker in the background, is scheduled to arrive in Woods Hole in the spring of 2016. Neil Armstrong and its sister ship, R/V Sally Ride, which will be operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography, will replace the recently retired R/V Knorr and Melville as the premiere multi-purpose ships in the U.S. academic oceanographic research fleet.
