I have run some GMT scripts to use the data you can download to show what the data will look like when plotted. I also have links to the GMT scripts that created these plots. You will have to customize the scripts to fit the files you have and your own needs. These scripts are only here to help you get started.

An example of using all of the files with the contours plot. This is pretty busy and probably not a good idea when you plot your data.
View the contour script file (it is the same as the one above. You will need to uncomment sections depending on what you want to show).
