The Best Place to Watch a Sunset

The Best Place to Watch a Sunset

October 1, 2007

As the research vessel Knorr cruised from Woods Hole toward the continental shelf off New Jersey, the science crew admired the sunset and the end of the first day. From left to right sit Alison Jones, from the Marine Advanced Technology Education program; Beth Christensen of Adelphi University; co-chief scientist and former MIT/WHOI Joint Program Alumni Association president Jamie Austin (now a trustee of the Institution); and chief scientist John Goff of the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics. The objective of the cruise was to sample and study the seafloor on the middle and outer continental shelf in order to learn when and how those sediments were laid down over the past 50,000 years.
