The Freshest Sushi

Research cruises, like life, are full of surprises. The ocean can offer up unexpected storms—or in this case, the freshest sushi you’ll ever taste. Aboard the WHOI-operated research vessel Neil Armstrong this week, Chief Steward Harry Burnett prepared a sushi dinner for scientists and crew, using a mahi-mahi caught by Captain Derek Bergeron. The research team, led by WHOI marine chemist Benjamin Van Mooy, is investigating the role of newly recognized chemical forms of phosphorus in the marine food chain.
