(Fluid) Dynamic Lecturers

(Fluid) Dynamic Lecturers

September 10, 2016

The principal lecturers of the 2016 Geophysical Fluid Dynamics program at WHOI were Peko Hosoi, professor of mechanical engineering and mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Michael Shelley, co-director of the Applied Mathematics Laboratory at New York University. Each summer since 1959, the GFD program has brought leading oceanographers, physicists, and mathematicians, along with eight to ten graduate students, to Woods Hole to explore current research in geophysical fluid dynamics, which spans fields that include physical oceanography, meteorology, astrophysics, planetary atmospheres, and hydromagnetics. Principal lecturers’ talks are compiled in an annual volume that are essentially mini-textbooks, comprising a unique, valuable resource to the research community.
