Two Ships

Two Ships

April 1, 2016

After R/V Knorr (now Rio Tecolutla) departed Woods Hole for the last time earlier in March, the ship headed south to its new home in Mexico. Along the way, off the coast of Cape Hatteras, Rio Tecolutla met up with the ship destined to take up its research duties in the Atlantic Ocean, R/V Neil Armstrong (foreground). The two sailed together for a short time, giving the crew on Armstrong, many of whom sailed on Knorr for years, a chance to say farewell to their old ship. On Wednesday, April 6, Neil Armstrong will arrive in Woods Hole for the first time. (Image courtesy of Kent Sheasley, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
