Preserving History

Archivist Dave Sherman works in the WHOI Data Library, where a diverse collection of scientists’ personal papers, oral histories, visuals, publications, and other documents are housed. The archives—part of the joint library shared with the Marine Biological Laboratory—preserves the history of the Institution for the scientific community and the public. That history includes over 900 reels of motion picture films, thousands of videotapes, and more than 1,000 rolls of 35mm film captured during Alvin dives.(Photo by Tom Kleindinst, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
