Fleet at Rest

Fishing boats tied up at Dutch Harbor, Alaska, in June 2009 await their next trip to sea. A recent Morss Colloquium titled “Does it matter where we get our seafood?” brought scholars from around the country to WHOI to discuss declining stocks of wild fish and the potential of aquaculture to provide seafood for a growing global population. Dutch Harbor is a frequent departure point for scientists and research vessels on their way to the Bering Sea to study zooplankton, a major component of the marine food chain that supports wild fish.(Photo by Alexander Dorsk, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
