Twister in a Bottle

Geophysicist Stewart Turner works on a laboratory model of a tornado vortex, circa 1962. Turner, who later returned to Australian National University, did research at WHOI while on a Rossby Fellowship. In addition to his tornado vortex model—which he later called “one of the few rotating experiments I have ever done in my career”—Turner worked on cloud physics and models of evaporation and condensation.
