Guest Student Alessandro Ramoni conducts a “fjord experiment” in WHOI’s geophysical fluid dynamics laboratory. Ramoni, from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, worked with WHOI scientists Claudia Cenedese and Fiammetta Straneo to study how seawater circulation in a deep fjord affects glacier melting rates. In the tank, clear and yellow-dyed water layers represent water in a fjord, and red lines of a dye solution show the direction and intensity of water flow.
