A rare visitor

A McKay’s Bunting is a special sight. Named in honor of American naturalist Charles McKay, these birds summer and breed on a few remote islands in the Bering Sea, and they’re a prize for birders due to their low population numbers. This male visited the icebreaker Healy, the U.S. Coast Guard’s largest ship, during the recent WHOI Polar Discovery expedition.
