What a Rush

What a Rush

June 15, 2008

Meltwater rushes in a stream across the top of the Greenland Ice Sheet in July 2007. Surface melt plays a significant role in the overall dynamic movements of the ice sheet, but it has a more subdued influence on the fast-moving outlet glaciers, which discharge ice to the ocean. Researchers from WHOI and the University of Washington, as well as a writer and photographer, are headed to the ice sheet in three weeks to continue ongoing field observations of ice sheet melting.
