Hotel Information
Rooms at a discounted rate are held for Buoy Workshop participants
at two local inns in the town of Falmouth. Please mention the Buoy Workshop
to get the reduced room rates. The hotels are about three miles from the
Workshop site. Transportation will be provided between the hotels and the
Workshop on each day of the meeting, and back to the Falmouth bus terminal
at the end of the Workshop.

The Shore Way Acres Inn , telephone 508/540-3000, holds rooms for $69.00
+ 9.7 % tax. Reservations are accepted only through fax 508/540-9337 or
through e-mail under shoreway@capecod.net. The inn does not accept telephone
reservations for this event. The address is Shore Way Acres Inn, Shore
Street, Falmouth MA 02541. The inn is on a quiet street within five minutes
walk to restaurants in the small historic Falmouth town center.

The Coonamesett Inn is holding rooms for $89.00 + tax until May 1. For

The inn has a good restaurant, and is 1 mile away from the town center.
Accommodations for Full Time Students
There will be limited number of dormitory beds available for $ 12/night,
and 2 bed summer apartments for $50/night. Please inquire for details by
calling WHOI Housing at 508/289-2389.

Dress Code Informal = Casual. Some protective clothing against
wind and rain is advisable (just in case).
Weather
Early May temperatures typically range from the sixties to the low
seventies (150-220 Celsius), the weather is mostly pleasant (late spring).

The Buoy Workshop Record, which will be prepared and mailed after the Workshop.
It will contain a Workshop Summary, the Speakers’ Abstracts of their presentations
and the List of Attendees.
Program Notes
Thanks to a large number of speaker volunteers, the program is packed
with little room to spare. Talks are limited to 20 minutes. At the end
of a session or before a break, a Panel Session is scheduled in which questions
can be directed to the speakers. There is room for unscheduled focused
discussion groups and brainstorm sessions after each day’s program or during
the program if time permits.
Note
Please No Photos or Tape Recordings During the Workshop Sessions: In
order to promote maximum exchange and communication openness during the
sessions it is requested to abstain from the recording of the presentations.
Materials presented at the workshop may be made available at a speaker’s
discretion.
Display Tables
Display tables can be rented for the workshop, space permitting. The
display area is in a room adjacent to the meeting room. Registration at
the Workshop is requested for the exhibitor.
Local Information
Woods Hole is on the scenic Cape Cod peninsula 85 miles (90 minutes)
from Boston’s Airport, and the airport in Providence, RI. Direct bus service
from Boston’s Airport to Woods Hole and Falmouth by the Bonanza Bus Line,
which also provides service with bus change from Providence’s Airport [Info
and schedule at www.bonanzabus.com]. The two designated hotels are located
one mile from the Falmouth bus station. The workshop is held just before
the start of the summer tourist season. The local attractions like ferry
rides to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket islands as well as whale watching
cruises and the large Cape Cod National Sea Shore parks on the outer Cape
Cod will not yet be crowded. |
