Science Objectives

1. Constrain salinity and preformed nitrate of the North Atlantic across a wide range of waterdepths during the last glacial maximum

2. investigate the habitability and microbial communities of deep sediment and seawater in representative regions and sediment types in the western North Atlantic

Long piston coring, gravity coring multi-coring, CTD/Niskin operations; multibeam and 3.5 kHz mapping of sites; shipboard studies of interstitial water chemistry; shipboard core logging; shipboard sampling for geochemistry, microbiology, paleoceanography
