All Ahead

A.D. Colburn looks out from the bridge of the research vessel Atlantis as it left Woods Hole in October on his final trip as captain of the Global Class research vessel. On this trip, Colburn sailed his ship south to a location on the western flank of the Mid-Atlantic rise, where instruments are monitoring fluid flows in the rocks beneath the seafloor. After a stop in Barbados, Colburn and Atlantis set out to service the Ocean Observatories Initiative Global Array in the Argentine Bite, but the trip was delayed when the ship was called to help search for the missing submarine ARA San Juan.
