Blowing Off Steam

Blowing Off Steam

December 23, 2006

Mount Augustine, near Homer, Alaska, spews ash and steam into the glow of the sunset. Five ocean bottom seismometers were deployed in February 2006 in Cook Inlet (around the volcanic island) by researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey and WHOI.  Volcanologists and geologists monitored the eruption from above and below the water line.
