Briefing in Tokyo

December 6, 2015

In Tokyo, Japan this October, WHOI scientist Ken Buesseler and Japanese colleagues briefed US Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy about radioactivity levels and sources in the ocean near the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power plants. Buesseler measured ocean radioactivity directly after the April, 2011 earthquake and tsunami, followed the dispersal and path of radioactive material, and created a citizen science sampling program to help monitor the material.
