Diwali Night at WHOI

A group of women wearing traditional Indian saris and the colorful forehead decoration known as bindi take a moment during WHOI’s Diwali Night celebration to pose for a photo. Diwali is the Indian Festival of Lights that celebrates the bounty of the year’s harvest and the triumph of good over evil.  During WHOI’s Diwali Night, which was sponsored by the Institution’s Diversity and International committees, guests took an Indian cooking class, learned to tie a sari, danced to Bollywood music, made colorful sand designs, and used henna to dye their hands with intricate patterns.(Photo by Stephanie Murphy, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
