Dog Dish Afternoon

Bosun Peter Liarikos works with the “dog dish” so named for its shape on the new long-coring instrument on the research vessel Knorr. The dog dish contains all of the control mechanisms needed to sense the instrument’s approach to the sea floor and to release the piston corer at the desired height off the bottom.
