Joint Program graduate student Kristin Pangallo’s childhood wish to work with whales and dolphins branched into a bachelor’s degree in chemistry then a job as a research technician at WHOI. Following her interests into graduate school, she entered the MIT/WHOI Joint Progam in 2004. Now extracting compounds from blubber, she studies the bio-magnification of certain chemicals in animals on top of the marine food chain—the whales and dolphins she once dreamed of working with. Outside the lab, Pangallo is a dancer and proud alumna of “Up with People” (cast of 1997), the performing group that promotes multicultural understanding and community service.
