Jelly and Fish

Jelly and Fish

June 25, 2007

This aggregate of salps (Pegea confoederata) and a small fish were collected in the warm waters near the Liquid Jungle Laboratory in Panama. WHOI graduate student Kelly Rakow is conducting morphometric analyses studies of form and function in these jelly creatures. Salps often have other critters associated with them, such as fish that may use the salp as a place to hide (since there are few places to hide in the open ocean).
