Learning by Jetyak
December 9, 2016Students in a small motorboat (left) use a gas-powered kayak known as a Jetyak to measure dissolved methane and other water properties of the North River in Marshfield, Mass., this past September. The Jetyak was developed at WHOI and can operate either autonomously or via remote control. This field trip was part of an instrumentation course taught by WHOI oceanographic engineer Anna Michel and oceanographer Rocky Geyer. Participants included MIT-WHOI Joint Program students Jimmy Kepper and Katie Samuelson, undergraduate Semester at WHOI student Laura Chrobak from the University of California, Berkeley, and guest student Xiangyu Li from East China Normal University.
