WHOI geologist Chris German presents framed photos to R/V Atlantis captain Mitzi Crane, relief chief engineer Jeff Little (left), and relief Boatswain Ed Popowitz (center). The photos were taken during a 2012 cruise on board Atlantis using the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Jason and highlight the unique geology and biology found at the deepest known active hydrothermal vents. They will hang in the Atlantis‘ library and lounge as a reminder to scientists and crew of ship’s pivotal role in helping explore the ocean and advance knowledge of our planet.
