Rescue Mission

WHOI engineer John Kemp supervised deployment of the towed vehicle Camper from the fantail of the Swedish research vessel Oden during the 2007 Arctic Gakkel Vents Expedition. The vehicle was mobilized to find the autonomous underwater vehicle Jaguar, which was trapped under the ice during a test dive. Camper has since been reconfigured for use as an observation and assist vehicle for the upgraded Alvin.(Photo by Chris Linder, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
