Snowglobe scene?

Snowglobe scene?

May 10, 2009

Like a tiny town in a snowglobe visited by a huge red sleigh, Palmer Station, Antarctica (seen here in 2002), gets regular stopovers from the ice-strengthened research ship Laurence M. Gould bringing supplies and transporting scientists to and from the outpost. One of three U.S. research stations in Antarctica, Palmer is a Long-Term Ecological Research study area where scientists track the changing climate. WHOI scientists working in Antarctica have studied the continent’s unique geology, ice organisms, and the ocean ecosystem. (Photo by Peter Wiebe, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
