SUPR REMUS

SUPR REMUS

October 22, 2015

WHOI researchers and engineers recently developed a new autonomous system designed to sample small planktonic larvae in coastal ocean waters and tested it this past winter in waters near Woods Hole. They dubbed the system SUPR-REMUS, which stands for Suspended Particulate Rosette (SUPR) multi-sampler, and mounted it on a REMUS autonomous underwater vehicle. The innovative sampling system includes special sensors that can identify the DNA of organisms in the water and can be used in shallow water, where traditional sampling methods using pumps and nets can be difficult to employ.
