Amphorae, the ancient equivalent of today’s 55-gallon steel drums, lie strewn on the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. Advances in underwater imaging and autonomous vehicles are enabling archaeologists to expand their studies of ancient shipwrecks into deep waters.
