Tight Squeeze

Tight Squeeze

March 9, 2015

In August 2014, R/V Knorr transited through Prince Christian Sound, a 60-mile (100-kilometer) strait in southern Greenland that narrows in places to only 1,500 feet (500 meters). The sound connects the Laborador Sea with the Irminger Sea—two water bodies that form critical links between the Arctic and North Atlantic Oceans. A team of WHOI scientists is helping study the subpolar North Atlantic as part of the five-year, international Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (OSNAP), which aims to understand how currents in the region interact with global climate.(Photo by Shannon Rauch, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
