Where land and sea meet

Where land and sea meet

September 25, 2009

In 2003 the Woods Hole Sea Grant worked with a group of volunteers who performed beach profile surveys at Cold Storage Beach, East Dennis, MA to assess how the beach (sand) has moved. The idea is to track the long-term trends in beach growth and erosion due to winds, waves, tides, storms, sea level rise, and human activities. Today the Morss Colloquium at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution will focus on sea level rise. The colloquium concludes with a panel discussion, open to the public, on managing shoreline change over the next 100 years. (Photo by Tom Kleindinst, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
