Ecosystem-level changes on Georges Bank examined through stable isotope analyses of haddock scales

Research:

This NOAA Sea Grant-funded project is applying novel techniques to an archive of fish scales that extends from 2010 back to 1931. The scales are from haddock collected on Georges Bank. We are performing compound-specific (amino acid) stable isotope analyses on the scales to get an unprecedented time series of fluctuations that have occurred not only in haddock trophic level but also at the base of the Georges Bank food web. Stay tuned for exciting results from this work.
