I would like to come into the classroom and present the following concept/activity:
Sound; propagation and scattering. Using sound to image your environment (i.e. whales, bats).

I can present this at a level appropriate for (choose one or more):
Grades K-2 (ages 5-8)
Grades 3-5 (ages 8-11)
Grades 6-8 (ages 11-13)
Grades 9-12 (ages 13-18)

I would categorize this science as (choose one or more):
Biology
Chemistry or Physics

relevant "learning standards" or "broad concepts":
Grades 3-5 & 6-8, Physics: sound as a "Form of energy"
Grades 9-10, Physics: sound as "Waves"
Grades K-2, Biology: "Living Things and Their Environment" using sound to detect your environment
Grades 3-5, Biology: "Adaptation of Living Things" e.g. since deep ocean is dark, whales adapted to use sound to sense their environment

How much classroom time will your presentation/activity require?:
1 hour
