Sediment Straw

May 19, 2007

The WHOI-built Giant Gravity Core is deployed by technicians and crew members of the U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Healy in the Bering Sea in June 2003. This sediment collector can recover undisturbed samples up to 6 meters (about 20 feet) long, allowing scientists to look back in time at past ocean and climate conditions.
