A Day to Remember

Ninety-five years ago today, the “unsinkable” Titanic struck an icebergand sank into 12,500 feet (3800 meters) of water in the North Atlantic southeast of Newfoundland. In July 1986, nine months after their discovery of the wreck, the WHOI Deep Submergence Laboratory team returned to the site to conduct test dives as part of the continuing development of the lab’s Argo/Jason imaging system, designed for scientific missions to explore and photograph the deep sea floor.
