Ring Around the CTD

Ring Around the CTD

September 8, 2016

Every summer, the WHOI Summer Student Fellowship (SSF) program and the Woods Hole Partnership Education Program (PEP) bring undergraduates to WHOI to learn more about ocean science. The students attend lectures by scientists and conduct research under world-class researchers. Traditionally, the students take a ride on WHOI’s coastal vessel Tioga, during which they  experience firsthand a variety of oceanographic instruments and sampling methods. Here, they surround a stalwart oceanographic tool, the CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) rosette that measures seawater temperature, pressure, and salinity and collects water samples.
