Tele-present

March 18, 2015

As part of the TREET (Transforming Remotely Conducted Research Through Ethnography, Education & Rapidly Evolving Technologies) program, early-career scientists and undergraduate students learned how to use telepresence technology during a live research dive. Here, students and scientists from the University of Idaho and Harvard University monitored real-time activity deep beneath the research vessel Nautilus from WHOI’s Coleman and Susan Burke Operations Room. The TREET program was designed by WHOI geochemist Chris German and his colleagues to better understand how the rapidly evolving technology might be integrated into research and education.(Photo by Ken Kostel, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
