Sentry Swim Test

Sentry Swim Test

July 29, 2014

In April the AUV Sentry was tested in the water at the WHOI dock before being shipped to join R/V Atlantis and the submersible Alvin for research in the Gulf of Mexico. The vehicles make a great research team, with Sentry‘s maps allowing scientists to get the most out of their relatively short time in the sub each day. Currently Sentry and Alvin are together again, working at hydrothermal vents at the Juan de Fuca Ridge off the Northwest U.S. Equipped with sophisticated sensors, Sentry will measure chemicals within diffuse hydrothermal fluid flows.(Photo by Richard Pittenger, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
