Carolyn Sue Hampton

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of WHOI retiree Carolyn Sue Hampton on June 20, 2024.  She was 80.

Carolyn was born in Boston to William and Freda (Blazer) Burke.

Carolyn began her career at WHOI in 1961 as a secretary.  In 1962, she was re-hired as a clerk/bookkeeper. During her 43 years of service, she was worked in various departments and was promoted several times. In 1999, she was became the MIS Manager and retired as a Senior Software Developer in 2005.

Carolyn was an avid reader, enjoyed sudoku, knitting, and needlepoint.

She leaves her husband of 62 years, Robert Hampton; daughter Sarah Hampton; and two grandchildren.

Visiting hours will take place on Monday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to noon at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. A service at the funeral home will follow at noon. Burial will be private.
