The Earl of Oil

The Earl of Oil

May 19, 2010

WHOI chemist Chris Reddy describes his work on the November 2007 San Francisco Bay oil spill, which occurred when the M/V Cosco Busan struck the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and released 58,000 gallons of heavy fuel oil. Director of the WHOI Coastal Ocean Institute, Reddy studies the short- and long-term fate of oil in marine environments, with an eye toward finding better ways to “engineer” cleanups.  (Photo by Jayne Doucette, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
