Ice camp

May 8, 2010

Kris Newhall and Jeff Pietro of the Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering Department with the latest ice-tethered profiler (ITP), which was deployed April 20, 2010, from their ice camp located 80 miles from the North Pole. The instrument was conceived to repeatedly sample the properties of the ice-covered Arctic Ocean at high vertical resolution over time periods of up to three years. The project is a collaborative effort with the North Pole Environmental Observatory, and real-time data is posted on the ITP website.
