Seize the Day

In 2000, graduates from the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography/Applied Ocean Science and Engineering lined up on the WHOI lawn at Commencement, and Ph.D. candidate Nicole Suoja Tervalon marked the day with a pink lei. A unique educational partnership, the Joint Program celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2008 and has awarded more than 800 degrees since its inception. WHOI will celebrate the achievements of this year’s graduates at a reception in their honor on June 3, 2009. Formal commencement will take place at MIT on June 5th, and the Joint Program Commencement will again be held at WHOI in 2010.
