Not in Nantucket any more

May 24, 2009

Nantucket?
“If I had realized this photo might appear as Image of the Day,” said researcher Jim Churchill, here waving at the camera, “I would have worn a different shirt” — perhaps a WHOI shirt? Shirts were necessary protection from the intense sun, as Churchill and WHOI physical oceanographer Steve Lentz dove in the Red Sea in April 2009. They set out 27 weighted temperature and velocity sensors (“T-pods”) on this shallow coral reef to better understand how water moves between the reef and adjacent deeper areas. This research was part of a collaboration between WHOI and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST.)
