World of ice and water

November 3, 2008

A large melt pond and Arctic sea ice extending to the horizon dwarf a human figure, but human impacts on the Arctic may be growing larger than the ice itself. Summer Arctic Ocean ice cover has declined, and scientists from around the world are working with a focus on the poles during this International Polar Year. WHOI phyical oceanographer Mary-Louise Timmermans organized an Arctic Sea Ice and Climate Symposium for November 5-7, 2008, bringing together scientists from all over the globe to discuss results and methods of studying the Arctic. A public lecture on Arctic Climate Change is included in the program.
