American Mud

September 28, 2008

WHOI chemists Chris Reddy (left) and Liz Kujawinski take slices of mud from a sediment core extracted from the Columbia River margin. During a two-week expedition on the R/V New Horizon in the spring of 2001—led by Tim Eglinton—a scientific crew comprised mostly of WHOI scientists collected sediment and water samples from Washington to Southern California to study the runoff of materials (particularly carbon compounds) from the land into the coastal ocean.
