Abstract: Oceanographic scientific endeavors depend on relationships between individuals, supported by institutional frameworks. Here, Professor Thompson will present a mentoring model that is built on both the success of the MPOWIR peer mentoring model and her experience in mentoring and being mentored by graduate students at the University of Washington. She will reflect on her experience in mentoring students and post-docs and discuss a model that focuses on growth for both mentors and mentees. The most rewarding mentoring relationships are built on a mutually supportive relationship that evolves over time.
