WOODS HOLE HISTORICAL MUSEUM: Oyster Talk and Tasting

August 23, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Will hold its annual “Oyster Talk and Tasting” on Friday, August 23, from 5-7 p.m., on the museum grounds at 579 Woods Hole Road. The first part of the evening will be a talk by local oyster growers Pete Chase, Eric Matzen, and Mary Murphy of Sippewissett Oysters cooperative, who will tell about their experience raising oysters in this area. The cooperative sells its oysters through the Coonamessett Farm. After the talk, which will include a demonstration of shucking oysters, the audience will proceed to the tasting tables where the bivalves will be opened for them. Wines, specially chosen to pair with oysters, will be available, as well as several kinds of beer. Light snacks such as crackers and chips will be served as well. This event is the eighth annual oyster celebration run by the museum and has been very popular and is often a sell-out. It is recommended that tickets be purchased soon by stopping in or calling the museum at (508) 548-7270, or online woodsholemuseum.org. The cost is $40 for members and $50 for non-members.
