Event Series Event Series: WOODS HOLE PUBLIC LIBRARY (WHPL)

WOODS HOLE PUBLIC LIBRARY (WHPL)

April 1 @ 3:00 pm - April 29 @ 4:00 pm

The library is celebrating National Poetry Month on Tuesday afternoons in April with a series of programming exploring the form called “Four Weeks of Poetry with Mr. Edwards”. Led by Woods Hole poet, reader, and raconteur Eric Edwards, each week will cover a new topic and will include a reading of relevant poems. The first session’s topic on Tuesday, April 1 is “Imitation is the Sincerest Form” and will discuss ideas surrounding the conceit of originality. Topics for subsequent sessions are “Formal and Informal,”“Why Not Read Long Poems?,” and “The ‘Short’ Poem from Haiku to Now.” Mr. Edwards will provide background and context for each topic, share examples, and invite questions and discussion. Each session will meet at 3 p.m. at the library. All are invited to attend, regardless of poetic background or knowledge. Many people find poetry difficult to read on their own or have not thought about its place in the world of literature since reading it in a school setting. These afternoons are a perfect opportunity to explore poetry in an accessible and inviting setting.
