Results of a hindcast simulation
after the 2005 Alexandrium bloom in the Gulf of Maine,
in which red denotes the highest concentration of organisms
and blue the lowest. A. fundyense cells germinated
from cyst beds in the Bay of Fundy and in mid-coast Maine
were swept south and west by coastal currents. A nor’easter
in late May enhanced transport of the bloom into Cape
Cod and Massachusetts bays.
