RAFOS Float

Researchers prepare floats for launch. At the end of their mission, a preprogrammed command from the floats’ microprocessors will release the ballast weight. The float rises to the surface and beams its stored acoustic tracking data as well as temperature and pressure data to satellites orbiting overhead. (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
